There is not a poker tournament that goes by, where the players are not covering their faces somehow. Either with hats, glasses, or bandannas, they are trying to hide their faces. There is some history to this, the art of keeping a good poker face. It is the age long way of trying to bluff other players into thinking that you have a bad hand, when in reality, you are trying to dupe them in to putting more money in the pot, so that when you lay down that Royal Flush, you can truly cash out.

Today, there is a slight art to the game of keeping a poker face. Some players actually believe that other players can see the cards they are holding off of the shine on their faces. So if you cover up the face, you can cover up the shine that goes with it. Other feel that they need to be completely blank so that other players have no idea one way or the other what they might have in their hand, and it keeps the game truly competitive.

The phrase “keeping a good poker face” comes from the days of the true poker player, the cowboy. When a player would get a good hand, they might get excited, and it would show on their face, they would smile, blush, or get fidgety. If it turned out to be a bluff, and that player won the pot based on junk cards, he might find himself shot by the other players. They took the false excitement as bragging, and when they would lose over something like that, they were a little bothered. Some saloons would post sign, “Keep a good poker face, or keep out.” While today’s poker players have completely different reasoning for keeping their faces covered for the game of poker, not much can top how the face game started.

Tips For Staying Safe When Visiting Casinos

The first step to staying safe is to try not to go alone. If at all possible try to take a friend or family member along for the visit. There is always safety in groups and it when there is more than one person it often keeps away thieves or anyone else that has bad intentions.

Next, never come in with a large amount of cash. Even if you have intentions of spending a lot at a casino, only bring in a portion of what you intend on spending. Always keep your money close to you. If you are bringing in a purse,avoid setting in on the floor as it becomes an easy target if you become distracted or sidetracked. When carrying a wallet avoid putting it in the back pocket and instead opt to place it somewhere closer to your person.

If you do win big, try not to draw extra attention to it. While it is always exciting when you win a big jackpot or have a huge payout, avoid making a big scene. If you do win big and you are alone, ask to be escorted out. Most casinos have staff members or security guards are that are able to do this.
