Las Vegas has been known to be the country’s hot spot for being an absolute adult playground. Las Vegas has a long history of being a sin city, and it was not started with strippers, big gamblers, and other indiscretions. The mob developed Las Vegas into a hiding ground where they could run their businesses, hide their money, and get away with, well, murder.
Law enforcement originally left Las Vegas alone because when it first became a place where big crime bosses could hang out, it was so far out in the desert, that the police were relieved to not have the crime in established cities. The idea to create a place that could hide illegal activity came about during prohibition. Las Vegas started out as a little dusty town, with hopes that is would rival the established Atlantic City. Many of the Chicago crime bosses wanted to have a split off the northeast crime ring. They decided to go coastal with their malevolent intentions, and spread their illegal bundles of joy across the nation. Authorities kept an eye on the crime bosses, but did not do much to deter the activity because, well as stated above, they were far enough away from anything that mattered at the time, that it became a case of out of site, out of mind.
Today, while the mob is not running the city anymore, it still has that seedy feel to it. Which is why it is such a fun destination for many adults. Corporations have replaced the mobsters, but it does not mean that they are any nicer. Instead of crime bosses hitting up local businesses for “protection,” casinos in Vegas today are protecting billions of dollars, and they mean to keep it. It just goes to show you that, in the words of ol’ Blue Eyes, Las Vegas is still good old Vegas Baby.
